“Everything We Do is Music” is the theme of Gallery 114’s annual June juried exhibit. Does work exude rhythm, melody, lyrics, harmony or dissonance from a social, political or musical perspective? Does it elicit a reaction in sounds, words or movement? Does it dance or sway? Does it move the viewer like a song or symphony? Does it sing? Gallery 114 invites 2D and 3D artists to respond to the theme: Our gallery is one of the oldest art collectives on the west coast and is located in the heart of Portland, Oregon’s bustling arts playground, the Pearl District. At Gallery 114, you can “expect the unexpected” because we are artist owned, artist run and artists unleashed. We encourage our members as well as jury participants to take risks and explore new and different creative efforts with underlying quality and integrity. For this show, “Everything We Do is Music”, we turn our gallery over to innovative artists who test boundaries and dive into their sense of creative freedom. STATEMENTKenneth Susynski is an American contemporary painter known for his unique, hybrid style that blends figurative expressionism with abstraction. His narrative oil paintings often explore historical, classical, and contemporary cultural themes with a distinct hint of wit and emotional contrast. His rendering of the human form is structurally influenced by a lifelong interest in historical and contemporary black-and-white photography. His work bridges multiple genres, combining elements of impressionism, traditional portraiture, sharp figuration, and fluid abstraction to create fresh, layered oil paintings. |
