Kenneth Susynski has been chosen for inclusion in the 2019 CVG Show at Collective Visions Gallery. The annual CVG Show is one of the largest and most prestigious art competitions in the Northwest. Three hundred fifty six artists from 96 cities and towns throughout Washington submitted over 1150 images for consideration. The competition’s juror, Gary Faigin, chose 131 pieces from these submissions for inclusion in the show. The juror will choose the recipients of over $8250 in cash prizes going to 10 artists in multiple categories, including the $1500 “Mayor’s Best of Show Award”. Additionally there will be over $3000 in purchase awards by area businesses, a $300 People’s Choice Award sponsored by the West Sound Arts Council, nine honorable mention awards, and the $1,000 Best of Kitsap Award sponsored by the Poulsbo based Cultural Arts Foundation Northwest. Exhibition Co-chairs Alan Newberg and Cindy DuVall say: “The 2019 show has attracted top-quality artists from every quarter of our state to submit their best work. Attendees and collectors will find a museum quality show of work ranging in size from large sculptures, paintings and fiber art pieces to small prints, photos and jewelry; and ranging in style from exquisite traditional work to provocative contemporary works and deeply personal expressions. Some of these artists are well established professionals, and others are emerging talents in the world of art. Our state is very rich with talent.” The 2019 CVG Show be will open to the public Jan 26 and continues until Feb. 23. There will be a special opening on Sunday, January 27, from 12 to 4 PM for viewing the artwork and to hear discussions of the artwork by juror Gary Faigin from 1 to 3 PM. Additionally, there will be a gallery talk by Tacoma Art Museum curator Margaret Bullock, at 6:30 PM on February 22. These two events will be free to the public. issuu.com/artistportfoliomagazine/docs/issue_33/1?ff=true&e=2382761/61353310 “Everything We Do is Music” is the theme of Gallery 114’s annual June juried exhibit. Does work exude rhythm, melody, lyrics, harmony or dissonance from a social, political or musical perspective? Does it elicit a reaction in sounds, words or movement? Does it dance or sway? Does it move the viewer like a song or symphony? Does it sing? Gallery 114 invites 2D and 3D artists to respond to the theme: Our gallery is one of the oldest art collectives on the west coast and is located in the heart of Portland, Oregon’s bustling arts playground, the Pearl District. At Gallery 114, you can “expect the unexpected” because we are artist owned, artist run and artists unleashed. We encourage our members as well as jury participants to take risks and explore new and different creative efforts with underlying quality and integrity. For this show, “Everything We Do is Music”, we turn our gallery over to innovative artists who test boundaries and dive into their sense of creative freedom. STATEMENTKenneth Susynski presents a unique, hybrid style of figurative expressionism blended with the abstract in narrative compositions that stress an interpretation of beauty, with a hint of wit, exploring combinations of historical and contemporary cultural themes. |
